A wonderful Russian singer and hurdy-gurdy specialist.

Taisia Krasnopevtseva

One would think her surname says it all: Krasnopevtseva literally means "singing beautifully". The translation however doesn’t do the beautiful Russian justice, for she is also a hurdy-gurdy virtuoso (if in doubt what a hurdy-gurdy is: Taisia is holding the instrument on the photograph below). She is a long-time music associate of the Russian folk guru Sergey Starostin. Her repertoire consists of truly remarkable songs gathered in different corners of Russia during numerous ethnographic journeys. Krasnopevtseva took part in them as a member of a renowned Russian folk band Veretenze.
